lecturing in comms, phd was 'On the rhetorical function of fictional worlds', fool for Parisian swing

in my sudden relentless search for music I like most from Japan for no particular reason.. Neon Sign Stomp by esoteric jazzy outfit Ego-wrappin', which contains just one or two nods to Tom Waits.

'the first take' is music without an edit option, good principle - I'd imagine the best guarantor of a faultless take is having played lots of gigs lately - from it, the band I've listened to most lately, Wednesday Campanella.. the device of one take, with new singer, yielded this astonishingly complete and composed result

tried a 38 question online IQ test to see what's in those these days. at end found detailed results would cost $14.95, which I didn't opt for. conclusion my IQ is whatever the result was +5 for not paying, then -15 for doing it in the first place. test: 90% counting and geometry.
#Canberra ambient soundtrack currently is 50% magpie youths squawking at their incredibly patient parents, demanding more snacks. it's incessant, can hear it at home at one end of a trip, and the same from another teen as soon as I get out of the car on campus.

"Isn't "going viral" and getting big follower counts what it's all about? … I finally realised on Monday that the word I was looking for was "traumatic" …"

A meditative read from @hugh on what it's been like for longer term #fediverse users (and instance admins) to fall under the algorithmically conditioned gaze of post-Musk Twitter's exodus.

Home invasion - Mastodon's Eternal September begins

The fediverse is dealing with a huge wave of Twitter people bringing toxic ideas with them.

ok doing an #introduction

am new to mastodon, best thing finding my way around is learning the extent to which it's another culture

currently teach #sound design, media production and communication theory at #Canberra Uni

do a lot of data collection and #dataviz on twitter, not sure yet how that might translate beyond the bird app

live near uni just with a small doggo, who's currently experiencing uncertainty as to whether his new llama toy is in fact a toy or a proper animal.

What @bastianallgeier said.

I joined Twitter in 2007. There was no reply feature yet. We invented writing @ in front of usernames before Twitter added it as a feature. It didn't mention anybody or even linked to their profile.

Early adopters shape digital spaces through open-minded creativity and tolerance for rough edges.

It's no feat to point out the rough edges of the Fediverse. It's a feat to see its potential and help pave the way to its great future.

missed the 'blood moon', tried a camera and lens that didn't work out, then there was cloud.

second try just got this partial moon instead.

newly arrived at @busabx, and in a week have found and followed 75 people I follow on Twitter. small proportion so far, but shows at least the potential to migrate a substantial part of the network to a decentralised alternative that can't be bought out from under us. #moa
