This morning’s City of Rome course took us beneath the surface to explore a lesser-known side of the city’s history.

Here are a few photos from our visit to the quarry under the Temple of Claudius on the Caelian Hill.

It was a valuable opportunity to see firsthand the spaces where building materials for ancient Rome were extracted, offering a deeper understanding of the city’s architectural development and the practical realities behind its monumental construction.

City of Rome students are in Rome at the BSR!

In these photos, students are exploring the BSR marble collection in one image, while in the other they are enjoying lunch in the beautiful setting of Villa Celimontana.

During these eight weeks, students will have the opportunity to follow Dr. Christopher Siwicki around the city, discovering different areas of Rome and gaining privileged access to sites that are sometimes closed to the public.

Welcome! ✨
