I consider my friend Mtume to be a renaissance man. He's a film maker, an actor, an emcee, and a producer. In the world of hip-hop, he's made music under the names Sir Tumes and Core Rhythm.
My next BSOTS episode will feature a Core Rhythm tune, a cut that feels like the centerpiece of the show and features killer verses from Core, my former Bondfire Radio comrade Conscious, and Sum.

Last month, I had a great conversation with my man Mtume Gant on his podcast Within Our Gates, which examines cinema and the arts from a radical left perspective. We talked about the 1972 film Top Of The Heap, which was produced, directed, written by and starring Christopher St. John. Released during the heyday of blaxploitation, it sidesteps a lot of that genre's tropes. A truly unique and recommended piece of Black cinema.
Second photo: To most, it's just an airline baggage claim tag. To me, it's a symbol of what can happen when I take a chance on me. The rush of exhilaration that I felt right after I booked the plane ticket to Atlanta...can't even begin to describe.

The photo was taken in my hotel room on August 3rd roughly three hours after the All Things Audio event ended. Four years of my creative journey are captured in this snapshot, starting from a podcast episode released in 2021 and including my first time attending and speaking at Afros & Audio the following year.
I'll be in the spot as part of a music and podcasting panel (and together with a few members of my Bondfire Radio fam). And amongst some movers and shakers in the pod game that I truly respect. And while I shouldn't be all "I need this weekend" about this, real talk...

My trip to the ATL will be brief, but necessary. As one month ends and another begins, I am truly looking forward to being in the company of creative souls and in new surroundings. It's a short amount of time, but hopefully enough time to be impactful for those in attendance. Something's telling me that this is going to be more than just a good time.
