In the worst case, there are major deviations and gaps.
That's what you didn't understand well and forgot.
It could be done verbally by talking too. You can imagine you explain to a virtual audience what you just learned.
@cctechwiz I think it comes after progressive highlithing. it must be aay from this context because what you keep under your eyes would limit your rerieval effort and pollute your thoughs. It has to start on a blank page with no notes around.
From a pure notetaking point of view, it's a wasted effort.
In the best case, all those words exist already but it serves memorization and internalization. Human memory is not read or write but combination of both, it deepens when used.
@cctechwiz I came to this realization that notes taken directly from the source are not part of the learning because they could very well stay transient in working memory.
So I categorize fragments as notes (what was jotted down during the experience), retrievals (what comes back from memory), insights (what's inferred), and concepts (keywords ).
