I am a straight man, born male, who has always identified as male.

But I worry about LGBTQ+, Trans, women's rights, and that of minorities. -- Why?!

1st, people are people. We all want to live our life in peace, love, and happiness, no matter who we are or where we are from.

2nd, LGBTQ+, Trans, women, and minorities are the metaphorical speaking, canaries in the coal mine. Whenever those people are put down and discriminated against, it does not end with them.

This week in community events:

- Attend the Planners of Color Happy Hour.
- Ride your bike to work and with the kiddos.
- Learn more about pedestrian and bicycle advocacy.
- Try out some e-bikes.
- See single-stair design competition proposals.

…and so much more! Read on for details and to register for these in-person and virtual events.: https://ggwash.org/view/99360/events-planners-of-color-happy-hour-2025may15

I am very sick of “polite spaces” where we “don’t talk about politics”. So many people, so many friends and strangers who I hold dear, live lives that are political. But no no, don’t talk about “politics” at school, at work, in the gym, online, in the restaurant, on the public bus, around your extended family…

How is it possible to pedal from town into the city — and feel safe?
Come for the dedicated bike path, stay for the tiled tunnel, and even(!) path lighting.

It's awfully late in the session, so unlikely to go anywhere, but Iowa Republicans have introduced a bill to make backyard ADUs a matter of right statewide: https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2025/4/4/iowa-may-legalize-backyard-cottages-your-city-can-do-it-first-ac #Iowa #housing #urbanism
Iowa May Legalize Backyard Cottages—Your City Can Do It First

Cities need more entry-level homes, but efforts to increase supply are often met with resistance. Iowa is considering a way around that issue: legalizing backyard cottages to increase housing supply without radically changing neighborhoods.
