A battery filled with algae is somehow managing to power this computer for months: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2319584-computer-powered-by-colony-of-blue-green-algae-has-run-for-six-months/

No-one's quite sure what's going on. Possibly the algae is serving as the medium catalyzing the interaction between the anode and cathode in the battery.

Except research shows the anode isn't degrading, which suggests ...

... the *algae* is producing the electrons.

Some thoughts on this in my blog post here, item 6: https://clivethompson.medium.com/lavaforming-ai-writes-heavy-metal-and-drones-that-deliver-hamburger-helper-59b9bcfda9a8

Computer powered by colony of blue-green algae has run for six months

Blue-green algae, a type of cyanobacteria, set in a container on a windowsill powered a computer continuously for six months using photosynthesis

I made it. I didn’t freeze. I had a good time. I loved walking and chatting with my wife just like we do on most weekdays.

Doing a fun run/walk in the grape capitol of Texas has its perks: I hit every wine stop on the way and tasted some great Texas wines.

I’m about to do a “gobble wobble” wine run in freezing weather. As a Texan, I’m not sure I was built for this.
Do you ever wonder how SSH works?
@RL_Dane I read your hash rag like “sha-wiiing” as if you were Garth from Wayne’s World 😂

The new Black Panther is 🔥

My fickle self finds the Black Panther storyline the most compelling part about the Marvel universe right now.

@kev I accidentally tapped “yep” and now I can’t take it back. Sorry!
Let’s try this again. Where you at #fediverse? Boosts welcome so we can get the best sample size.

@secretgeek when we figure out how to put our servers and admins in low earth orbit, keeping them “up” will be less of a problem. Then we’ll just have to worry about keeping them warm with blankies and cuddles.
Computers, or “servers” as we techies call them, are lighter than air and usually bump harmlessly around the ceiling. But when a new user joins a server: some zeros become ones, and approximately 61 grams are added to the server. This means our admins need to ride their helium pump machines extra hard. And that, my friends is why the influx of users has made it so hard to “keep the servers up”. Hashtag “the more you know”
