The thing about so-called 'creeping fascism' is that it doesn't actually creep. It's loud and overt. What's insidious is how quickly those loud, overt changes are normalized.

if Ford had Ontario's interests at heart rather than his own, this election would NOT be happening.

VoteWell

A strategic voting tool for the 2025 Canadian federal election

THE POINT: this is not good democracy. ppl are already overwhelmed. a lot of ppl are already booked to be elsewhere in the last ten days or so of February...the ONLY window in which civic mechanisms like fully registered candidate slates & voting options will be available. there is neither enough time or information to make this a solid election about issues. Doug has pushed this on us, hoping more than ever of us stay home amidst all the uncertainty & inconvenience & fear.
note: we are 3 weeks + a day from this election & one of the major parties still hasn't even announced a candidate in my riding. the elections worker handed me a ballot & told me to write in a name: i had to ask her what my options were.
the runway on this Ontario election is so short that the fact that i have two work trips in the second half of this month (& a tight unplanned turnaround btwn them thx to Air Canada's usual bait & switch) means i miss both the actual vote AND the mail-in window.. so...after two phone calls & an inconvenient half-hour drive...i voted, this morning, to make sure i got the chance.

#OntarioPolitics rant

i voted, today. one little swell of anti-Trump boisterousness & Doug Ford calls this Ontario snap election...though he still has 15 months left in a majority mandate & has been a Trump-lite politician all along. Ontario funds health care/higher/other public services at the lowest rate of all provinces, but Ford's betting he'll get away with this pointless squandering of $$ bc we'll vote for his tough little Made in Canada hat. 🙃

spoiler: voting for a hat=going poorly.
