Walz calls Trump a 'tyrant' who is trampling Americans' rights

Tim Walz has used a law school graduation speech to go after President Donald Trump. The Democratic governor of Minnesota is accusing the Republican president of creating a national emergency by repeatedly violating the rule of law. And Walz is calling on law graduates at the University of Minnesota to stand up to abuses of power. Walz, who was his party's vice presidential nominee in 2024, says lawyers are “our first and last line of defense.” Walz called Trump a “tyrant” who is “abusing power to persecute scapegoats and enemies.” In response, the White House criticized Walz’s stewardship of Minnesota when the state’s two largest cities erupted in protests and riots after George Floyd's murder in 2020.
