Erdogan Faces Runoff in Turkish Presidential Election

After two decades in power, a struggling Recep Tayyip Erdogan has two more weeks to persuade Turkish voters that he should continue as president.

The New York Times

More than 12 hours after the polls closed in #Turkey and with more than 90% of the vote counted, the presidential election result is still not clear.

It’s really hard to overstate how acutely dangerous this is: All strands of the Right - leading Republicans, the media machine, the reactionary intellectual sphere, the conservative base - are openly and aggressively embracing rightwing vigilante violence.

UPDATE: It's been more than 24 hours since Musk pledged to release the censorship demand he received from the Turkish government

NOTHING has been released.

Which is exactly how Erdoğan wants it.

@mcnees How many of these types are on mastodon?
If someone comes at you on here with “actually, Nazis were socialists,” just block them and don’t look back. Do yourself this little kindness.

The free speech absolutist has logged on.

Shot and chaser:

@MissingThePt everything.
@MarvClowder @Sundae_Gurl Yeah, like I said - the post is probably made up but either way it’s not funny if it’s supposed to be a joke. I just don’t see the humor in making out all Chinese to be supporters of the regime, many of them may have been persecuted themselves.

Tonight I spoke at an AAPI event and mentioned America's history of anti-Asian discrimination—including the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Asiatic Exclusion League, & Koramatsu & Japanese Camps.

Afterwards an older gentlemen approached me and said, "Thank you for reminding everyone the US Govt locked Japanese Americans in camps. I know—because I was born in those camps. I carry that with me til this day."

I was left in awe. A reminder—this isn't ancient history folks. It's contemporary reality.
