A few months ago, after years of not accepting venture capital funding, @Gargron stepped down as CEO of Mastodon as part of Mastodon's becoming a not-for-profit.

A few days ago, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber stepped down and a few days later Bluesky announced that - surprise - we got a hundred milliion dollars in venture capital investment from a cryptocurrency company and that happened a full year ago but we were just too busy to mention it.

These two things are not the same at all.

Google: "We heard you and will allow power users to sideload apps on Android devices using 3 captchas, a Hail Mary and a Konami code."
They're completely missing the point. Openness is *anyone* being able to easily install (not "sideload") the apps of their choice using the store of their choice.
If your grandma can install a full suite of Linux software on her laptop in 3 clicks, she should be able to do the same with her phone.

#Samsung devices from today can no longer install custom ROMs.

Odin is gone and the Download Mode is also gone, which makes life hard also for repair services that want to restore a device.

This is your daily reminder that #Android is a liability, and major hardware manufacturers who ship Google’s version of Android are a liability too.

We need to get Linux phones to work, and we need manufacturers who are aligned with our principles.
