The 16th Annual International Biocuration Conference will be held in the Cultural Center Altinate San Gaetano in Padua, Italy on April 24-26th, 2023.

It is a forum for curators, developers, and users of clinical and life sciences data, knowledge, and models to discuss their work, promote collaboration, and foster the community around this active and growing area of research.

Arina Puzriakova finished up the mainline agenda of the conference by presenting on clinical gene panels and PanelApp #biocuration2023
Henning Hermjakob presented on community curation of SARS-CoV-2 in Reactome and the Disease Maps community #biocuration2023
Next, @lubianat (also our own!) presented on Wikidata and the Cell Ontology #biocuration2023
To kick off the last session, our own @cthoyt presented on how to build more sustainable biocuration projects #biocuration2023
The second chair of the Careers in Biocuration workshop is Randi Vita #biocuration2023
Nicole Vasilevsky kicks off the Careers in Biocuration workshop with the goal to show different paths to become or do biocuration. Slides for the workshop here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/14fUOyspELaiM6p4uLar0l8TA70rNT2sBrv0vxi2MUQk/edit#slide=id.p #biocuration2023

Last community talk of the session by Nancy George from Expression Atlas EMBL-EBI : She will be talking about Single cell anatomogram project to understand the how expression profiles define cell populations. Its aim is to display cell types realistically within their parent structures alongside cell types provided by the data submitter.

Community talks begins and the first speaker Marc Feuermann explains the first attempt to create a complete, draft human functionome through a comprehensive synthesis of functional data obtained for human genes and their homologs in non-human model organisms

It was nice to hear Catherine Hayes on Glycan community efforts by bringing three Glycan resources together to aid the glycobiology community by sharing and collaborating on glycobioinformatic resources
on a FAIR basis.

Best way to start the end of the conference : Day 4
Our last keynote speaker : Guy Cochrane on Global Biodata Coalition (GBC)
Forum has been formed to overcome the existing issue of poor coordination between funders/data resource managers. GBC addresses the issues on behalf of and in collaboration with research funders, to ensure that biodata resources remain freely available to all researchers everywhere around the globe
Conference dinner is amazing so far, we’re two courses in of four #biocuration2023
