FWIW, the Square that many knew and love has been gone for a couple of years now.
It used to be the kind of place people would stay at or boomerang back to in spite of it not being the highest paying place in tech.
It aspires to be at that pay level, and the people who are still there today are getting paid like that, but, well..... they'll find out how that works out I guess. I'm out.

This resonated with me. The way computers used to be hard is because their intended audience was more similar to the people who made them. The way they are hard now is because they are ubiquitous and vertically integrated, and (many) tech companies want to take advantage of that.
