@cammerman you ever try and tweak the temp of your shower and you go just a bit too far and so you try and correct but you over-correct? In precision manufacturing, all of your handles and dials have a bit of play to them, or "slip" or "slop" depending on your vernacular, where when you change directions you have a brief space where your turning of the handle doesn't register, this allows you to make more precise corrections than if you didn't have that bit of slip. Its the same with people.
