The #Apple #AI blunder seems like a Rorschach test for every Apple pundit to project their biases.
My bias is that the Siri team has always been incompetent, that Apple’s AI team (mostly plucked from Google) is good at writing papers but not at delivering software, and that LLMs are not reliable tools that can be applied consistently.
I'm reviewing a bunch of government IT consulting firms' websites today, and it sure is a tell when they've pivoted their offerings to be all about AI. DevOps…with AI! Agile...with AI! Cloud...with AI!
These are companies that are not interested in improving government—they’re going to sell agencies whatever agencies think they want, regardless of whether it improves government in any way. The same companies were all about blockchain five years ago. They make the world worse.

macOS has blocked access to any user private data since macOS Mojave 10.14 (6 years ago!). Any app accessing private user data (Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Photos, any third-party app sandbox, etc.) now requires explicit user access.
OpenAI chose to opt-out of the sandbox and store the conversations in plain text in a non-protected location, disabling all of these built-in defenses.

Japan's health ministry and local officials have inspected a pharmaceutical factory that handles raw materials for dietary supplements containing the ingredient "beni-koji," or red yeast rice. The supplements are apparently linked to kidney diseases and other health damage.
I accidentally found a security issue while benchmarking postgres changes.
If you run debian testing, unstable or some other more "bleeding edge" distribution, I strongly recommend upgrading ASAP.
