A few words on alternative platforms you might be considering:
- Tumblr: still exists, now run by Automattic, the WordPress crew -- decent folks. Not my kind of thing but seems to have found its niche, might even interoperate with Mastodon some day.
- Cohost: good vibe, good people, feels small-scale Tumblr-ish. Run by a "not-for-profit software company".
- Post.news: funded by early Twitter investor Andreessen Horowitz. Nonsense micropayment scheme. Avoid.
- Hive: security nightmare. Avoid.
Now that Twitter is really falling apart, if you've downloaded your archive but not converted it to markdown, you really should. The archive has links to twitter and the images there are reduced in size, so if Twitter goes down, good luck accessing your archive.
