Trans woman and Elder Gen-X. She/her. Go Blue!

New study gave $7,500 to 50 unhoused people.

Guess what?

"They did not spend more money on alcohol or drugs, contrary to what people believe, and instead they spent the money on rent, food, housing, transit, furniture, a used car, clothes. It's entirely the opposite of what people think they're going to do with the money."

Congrats to my UBC colleague Jiaying Zhao on this study.

A B.C. study gave 50 homeless people $7,500 each. Here's what they spent it on.

A new B.C.-based study undercuts the persistent stereotype that homeless people can't be trusted with cash, according to the lead researcher who says it also highlights a different way to respond to the crisis.

It’s clear that most Republican leaders know Trump would be an electoral disaster, and that they can’t wait for him to be convicted and taken out of the running.

Most of them are just just too gutless to say so publicly because they want his supporters as their own.

A bunch of right-wingers knew there was a trans woman in the Barbie movie, but couldn't figure out which Barbie they were supposed to be angry about. On the dangerous future of paranoia and transphobia: https://www.readtpa.com/p/transphobia-and-right-wing-paranoia
Transphobia and Right-Wing Paranoia Are a Dangerous Mix

The Barbie movie was fun, but the right-wing reaction to it shows that we're living in a scary time for anyone who doesn't fit neatly into a box.

Example #3,443,234 of why privatizing public roads is a bad idea. The price is going up when the demand goes down.

Dulles Greenway proposes 40% hike, citing fewer drivers and debt

The Dulles Greenway, in Loudoun County, is one of a handful of privately owned highways in the United States and the only such roadway in Virginia.

The great problem with Democrats on trans rights is many are transphobic themselves. Not loudly or virulently. But they feel there's something "bad" or "wrong" about being trans, that people should only transition as a last resort, that most of us could stop it we really wanted to (or were forced to), and therefore, despite the horror stories from trans kids turned trans adults like me, trans kids and even adults should be held back "just in case."

That's why they're not loudly defending us.

Very good piece on the state of American journalism and where the pursuit of the appearance of objectivity at the expense of other journalistic values has led the industry astray.

The criticism of the establishment is very good, but I found the articulation of the principles journalists should strive to uphold in our work the most useful- that comes toward the end, so definitely read through.
