As part of some infrastructure changes, I'm beginning to direct requests to BeaconDB's API to a new server. The new server is ready to answer location queries, so there *should* be no downtime as part of this change.

You can continue uploading new data as usual, but it will not be processed until most clients are hitting the new server.

Adding some @beacondb coverage whilst on holiday 🇮🇩

Scratch that- they've brought the server back online.

No idea what's happening at this point, they haven't contacted me with an explanation.

I'm glad the server is back online, I just hope it stays up long enough for me to have a new server ready to move to.

> if further reports are received, your server will be blocked again immediately.

netcup has made it incredibly clear they do not care about people abusing their abuse system to permanently take down any server they host with just an email.

Unfortunately, BeaconDB will remain offline for the next 16 hours. I'll continue to download the server's disk overnight, and plan to setup a new server with a different provider tomorrow.

Any suggestions for a reliable European cloud provider would be much appreciated.

netcup will be giving me rescue access to the server shortly, as for some frustrating reason, if a server has received an abuse claim it can only be started in working hours of their timezone.

I'll then be taking a disk image to ensure all data is safe and working with netcup to try and prove this claim as fraudulent.

Hopefully won't be down for too much longer. I've been posting info as soon as I'm aware of it in the Matrix room, but I'll make sure to post updates here too. :)

Hi all, it's been a while 😅

Just posting here to let you know that BeaconDB has been down for nearly 20 hours due to what appears to be a fraudulent abuse claim.

Someone has contacted netcup with a few MB of logs that show the IP of BeaconDB's server being used to scan ports. netcup has decided to shutdown the server without seeking any clarification from me, which has also then prevented me from accessing any server logs to try and make sense of this situation. It's fun that you can also add waterways to @beacondb

No way Google's Street View cars can get there.

With detours and taking a wrong turn the entire trip was 17,71 km and took us nearly 3,5 hours by kayak. beaconDB wasn't the main point of the trip, but it was fun to feel like we were contributing to something.

Yes. Yes we're exhausted. The muscle pain will set in tomorrow.
