How do #instances federate in the #fediverse? Is all-to-all communication assumed? Do instances black-/whilelist each other? If not, how are Activities routed between them? I haven't seen anything in #activitypub about that so far. Is there an established protocol?

Hi. I stumbled upon the #fediverse yesterday, and I'm trying to get to grips with #activitypub, especially its workflows. Anybody got a resource that is more accessible than the W3C recommendations?
