Veterinarian, Christian, she/her. Mom of 2 hoping for a better, more loving world for her kids. I fangirl and I garden and I try to keep from losing my sanity.

Jumping back on here after a long absence to twirl around like a Disney Princess and say I finished my crappy first draft of my first novel. It happened, I did it. It's terrible and needs so many edits and rewrites and I don't even care because I actually have a first draft to edit and rewrite.

But first, a break, I think. A few weeks of letting it all rest, then back to it. The joy of this and paying off my student loans are going to have to sustain me through all the awful.

Am I getting my son’s cold or is my body just shutting down because of all the election stress? Either way it’s looking like I’m staying home tomorrow because I feel like CRAP.

My husband is so smart. He designs airplanes and does math in his head. But he was homeschooled and grew up in a conservative Christian household that kept him away from pop culture as much as possible. So ever so often we have conversations like:

Me: "Copa Camaro?" Oh, like "At the Copa, Copacabana~"
Him: What?
Me: You know, "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl...?"
Him: I've never heard that song. Who sings it?
Me: Barry Manilow?
Him: ...I mean...I think I've heard the name...

The world is so scary right now that I’m just burying myself in escapism until Election Day. Already voted, so that assignment is completed. Listening to Circle The World and Not How It’s Supposed To End on repeat. Revisiting all the fluff bits of my writing over and over. C’mon brain, I need the happy chemicals to keep me from going crazy for the next 10 days.

Last night we bought pumpkin donuts at the local pumpkin patch and had some for an after-dinner treat. This morning my husband asked the kids if they wanted some for breakfast.

6: WHAT?! Donuts can be for BREAKFAST???
4: *quickly, as if my husband could change his mind* I want one!

When your super conservative cousin decides to use “Donald” as her newborn son’s name and you have to do a quick search to make sure there’s a parent or grandparent with that name (there is…thank goodness 😅).

6: Mommy, how do you read Daddy’s mind and how does he read your mind?
Me: Uh… we don’t?
6: No, you guys clearly do.

Apparently we have managed to convince our kids we are telepaths. Parenting level unlocked? 😆

Today I harvested 44lbs of potatoes. We planted 5lbs. Okay, so definitely growing in the ground is better than in grow bags. 😆

So far this year we're at 267lbs of produce. That includes 47lbs of apples from my little columnar apple trees. We still have some tomatoes, squashes, rutabagas, beets...and a looooot of carrots.

I'm so excited that things went so well this year. When I started my little garden 8 years ago I never expected it to do this well.

Me: It’s been a rough afternoon, huh?
4, in the saddest voice: Yeah. *siiiiigh* It’s hard being 4.
