Always want to learn about something new that's thrown my way

Check out my stuffwww.maxgenson.de

Last week, I went down a huge rabbit hole and tried to come up with a mathematical generalization of dealing with errors in circuits.

I am not a mathematician, but I tried to come up with a proof as rigorous as possible. However, other eyes are very much appreciated. I'd be happy about a boost and/or feedback.

And of course, I'd be glad if this was useful to anyone else :)

Demystifying Electrical Component Tolerances

Did you ever wonder how the tolerances of resistors influence a voltage divider? What happens if you put two components in parallel — does the effective tolerance increase or decrease? I had some very wrong assumptions about the answers to these two questions and am glad I looked deeper in to the topic. Some very suprising, yet satisfying and reassuring insights into error boundaries and propagation lie ahead. So buckle up and get ready for some math! (I enabled LaTeX \LaTeX LATEX on my blog for this, hihi)

Hello Fediverse!

Being a more silent user of social media, I want to change that and introduce myself!

I am one of those nerds that are into #Linux, more specifically #Nixos. Blogging is something I recently got into and you can find an interesting post about that hobby of mine here: https://www.maxgenson.de/blog/nixos-is-also-a-parasite/

Other than that, music is my big passion. From listening/going to concerts/playing instruments to building my own synthesizer, I'm always open to new suggestions for new (and weird) music!

NixOS is also a Parasite - A Secure Boot Story

Do you find yourself with a piece a computer hardware that is locked via the BIOS with an unchangeable secure boot setting, but you want run a non-Microsoft-approved Linux on it? Then you found the right place, because that’s exactly what this is about. This piece is a cautionary tale about security and ‘if there’s a will there’s a way’. It is explicitly not about hacking, since no reverse engineering or exploits have been used to perform this parasitic (software) transmutation. However, first things first.
