Discord checkpoint came out for this year (another feature being passed around like Spotify wrapped) and it won't give you one unless you had your privacy setting set to big brother mode.
Makes sense since they claim to not track you (they do).
What's fun is you can be the top 3 of people chatted with on your friends checkpoint, despite having the setting disabled.
So either you are for sure being tracked or you're just tracked through others who have the setting enabled.
