You can’t prevent Apple maps from accessing the camera. Yet another example of them bypassing their own privacy ā€œprotectionsā€ for their own apps.
Saddened to hear the BBC have axed their science + technology program ā€œClickā€. It often offered a unique perspective on tech journalism in an overly crowded space - with high production value to boot. Also appreciated the balance they got right between covering the cutting edge and explaining things to the non-technical.
Just used the @nextcloud document scan function in the mobile app for the first time. Really speedy and logical UX. Impressed.

Sounds like Microsoft may finally start moving away from Kernel level drivers. https://www.theverge.com/2024/8/23/24226638/microsoft-windows-security-summit-crowdstrike-partners

Lessons learnt as a former #Macadmin when Apple transitioned from Kexts to user-space drivers and enforced in mac10.15:
- As soon as MS announce the time line, start mapping out which of your packages use Kernel-level drivers.Though MS aren't usually as aggressive as Apple with deadlines, they have egg on their face so wouldn't be surprised if things move quicker than normal.
- Of the packages that use Kernel-level drivers, immediately start pressing your TAMs as to when they'll have a user-space driver production-ready. - Ask to enrol in their beta programs as it's usually a huge change to their application architecture that comes with bugs and possible friction during migration.
- In my experience, vendors often weren't following the news, and poor communication on their end created lots of uncertainty until the last minute.
