It’s a small, symbolic thing, but I’m proud of the Spanish pm for saying Israel shouldn’t be in the Eurovision while committing genocide.

ā€œLow-information votersā€ is a phrase that will haunt me in my dreams. But also a sign of the times. But I also worry that criticising the press creates the illusion that journalism itself has no value so we might as well just follow influencers. That feels like a circular problem.

ā€œA recent study from researchers at Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon suggested that a person's critical thinking skills atrophied the more they relied on, and trusted in, AI responses. Another paper, published last year, unearthed a distressing link between students who heavily relied on ChatGPT and memory loss and tanking grades. ā€œ

The article also briefly mentions other contemporary emerging theories, such as Alzheimer’s being a glucose metabolism disorder of the brain (as a result of a fault in brain mitochondria).

Since brain mitochondria are also implicated in Parkinson’s and Huntington’s, we’ll probably see more research on that.

ā€œbeta-amyloid cannot tell the difference between invading bacteria and host brain cells, and mistakenly attacks the very brain cells it is supposed to be protecting.ā€

ā€œRather, we believe that Alzheimer's is principally a disorder of the immune system within the brain.ā€

This thread was inspired by the lady who verbally at me in the street and yet all I can think of is ā€œwhy doesn’t she oil her hair if it’s so badly friedā€.

This ā€œlet’s see what everyone who isn’t us is going and say that doing the polar opposite is civilisedā€ is dumb.

It’s everywhere, and it hurts everyone.

And my favourite was how long it took western culture to even believe that the primitive form of vaccines could even work: simply because using small amounts of virus to inoculate the population was already established in India.
