Great news everyone! I finally talk about AI hype. Someone finally mentioned LLMs one time too many, and the reckoning is upon us:

Also, shout-out to @letsencrypt for dramatically changing the security landscape of the Web for the better over the years.
Rarely is there an example of a project so effective and so directly improving everyone's lives, while at the same time keeping the original engineering mindset and just Doing Stuff Right™ humbly in the background.
Next November it will have been exactly a decade since LE started. We all owe them a huge 10th birthday party.
Facebook bots invading forums where people are trying to have conversations with other people is a genuinely evil development.
China: “Remove all VPNs”
Apple: “Sure thing”
China: “…and podcast apps”
Apple: “Can do boss!”
China: “…and also hand over all iCloud data for our citizens”
Apple: “I mean why wouldn’t we? Here you go!”
EU: “Allow alternate app stores, and do it fairly”
Apple: “Ahhh hell no! This is so unfair you guys are bullies! Malware! Privacy! We have standards! Unlike you we care about our users!”
Take the #AI hype and marketing fluff away, and #ChatGPT becomes:
“LLMs generate responses by randomly sampling words based in part on probabilities. Their “language” consists of numbers that map to tokens.”

Today was ... interesting. If you followed me for the past months over on the shitbird site, you might have seen a bunch of angry German words, lots of graphs, and the occassional news paper, radio, or TV snippet with yours truely. Let me explain.
In Austria, inflation is way above the EU average. There's no end in sight. This is especially true for basic needs like energy and food.
Our government stated in May that they'd build a food price database together with the big grocery chains. But..
Also worth noting that school rules – at least in my part of the UK (Tory run Hampshire) – are now insane. It is strongly recommended you do NOT test for covid. If you choose to, your child has a maximum of three days to return to school, even if testing positive, unless they have a high fever. Failure results in strikes against your child’s record. Ten half days unauthorised can lead to referral and prosecution. All going well on Normal Island…

@[email protected] @[email protected] Same. The age group with school age children are incredibly vulnerable and they're usually working age so that's a ton of people that will be too sick to work. It's utterly criminal frankly.
