Every time I think that the sociopathy of Silicon Valley executives like Eric Schmidt cannot be more explicit, they prove me wrong. In a single speech he made blatant statements like "employees should work like dogs and live in fear" and "our startups can and should rob everyone else blind". (But presumably heaven help you if you infringe on the IP of his companies; the theft only can flow in one direction.)

Also, shout-out to @letsencrypt for dramatically changing the security landscape of the Web for the better over the years.

Rarely is there an example of a project so effective and so directly improving everyone's lives, while at the same time keeping the original engineering mindset and just Doing Stuff Right™ humbly in the background.

Next November it will have been exactly a decade since LE started. We all owe them a huge 10th birthday party.

Also worth noting that school rules – at least in my part of the UK (Tory run Hampshire) – are now insane. It is strongly recommended you do NOT test for covid. If you choose to, your child has a maximum of three days to return to school, even if testing positive, unless they have a high fever. Failure results in strikes against your child’s record.
