The expansive past. Working to rest.

There is an inherent contradiction in the way that the new year often seems the most busy while simultaneously being the darkest. When all we want is to retreat inwards, even the simplest of actions can seem monumental. While the night calls for isolation, the world calls for an inauthentic display of sociality amidst the twinkling of artificial lights. To rest well in our modern world is to be proactive, maybe even a bit rebellious.

Make time for yourself and make time for the past this holiday season. Honour your ancestors when you feel called to. Soothe your soul by acknowledging how far you’ve come. Remember the wounds you hold, scarred over and healing because of the moments where you chose to keep going.

The illusions of self. Challenging the ideas we value.

Hypocrisy is a word I quite rather dislike. Are we more inclined to hold others to standards we would not hold ourselves to? Yes, of course. And yet, we can never hold ourselves (or others) to the same standards twice because those standards change from moment to moment. Even our wayward thoughts and deeply held beliefs evolve and devolve like the flux of ocean waves.

Do you cling on or do you allow yourself to flow?

You are allowed to shed the skin of your cocoon and expand your wings. You are allowed to change your mind. You are even allowed to exist in a state of contradiction. To be human is to be messy, never fully immutable in your self concept or your worldview. The idea of perfection is nothing more than an illusion; an impossible standard the universe itself will never be able to live up to.

Ideas of interdimensionality. Embedding knowledge within culturally, systemically, and ecologically viable frameworks.

Staying connected to what we hold dear is a prominent theme that has emerged these past few days. Our hearts are open—open to receive the joys and pains our world has to offer. Patterns are being re-written, new modes of expression being created. Stand firm in what your center calls for. Strength is to be found in what you value.

When we are connected to our foundation, we are able to perceive what most cannot. We are able to connect beyond ourselves, into other worlds, other universes, other realms, and other timeframes. Ideas matter in that they too are something to be experienced, something to be cherished. The mind does not seek separation, rather it seeks access to the types of understanding that come from the farthest reaches of the galaxy, to the space between the material and non-material, the liminal of the void through which all beings must pass to get here.

You are stardust. You are the embodiment of divine play. All you are required to do is experience. That is more than enough.

Restrained vitality. Commitment to a core purpose.

Sometimes a square between the Sun and Saturn can feel as if your energy is diminished, like your whole body is being squeezed. There’s a stickiness to it, maybe even a heaviness. It compels us to really consider the self. If you do nothing else today, spend some time looking inwards.

Have you received clarity or are you content to remain in the swells of the oceans undercurrent? Neither one is inherently better than the other, but once you know what you desire, you may as well do everything in your power to get it.

It seems as if just a moment ago the path ahead was clear. A thick fog has floated in, obscuring your vision so that you can barely see two feet in front of you. What should you do? Should you plow along even though you cannot see?

They say when you find yourself lost, the best thing you can do is stay where you are. Maybe this wise advice doesn’t just have to apply to disaster situations, but it’s tricky isn’t it? We are told to always be moving, to continue on in a forward momentum. We are seldomly encouraged to wait, to listen.

Yet, in these moments of stillness we uncover our greatest wisdom, we learn to trust in ourselves, and we become patient enough to remain as we are until the mist blows over. When there is silence, when there is nothingness, there is no one present to pass moral judgements upon you. There is only yourself: whole and complete without needing to do a thing. Strive less. Surrender more.

After all, what is art without the imagination that produced it? The ability to transcend, to become hazy and suspended in solitude, does not exist separate from the material plane in which we walk.

Should you dance between the realms of matter and spirit and find yourself lost, look to what it is you value. Values will always illuminate the path it is you seek in the end. Find your way back.

Explosive optimism. The space between the end of an old book and the beginning of a new one.

Sometimes we have days where our impulsivity gets the better of us. We lash out, we say things before thinking them through, we get defensive without meaning to. It’s normal to become rigid in these moments—to defend your ideas unflinchingly. But this time, things are different. There is a fluidity present; a willingness to change or allow through new perspectives. Remember that starting off on the wrong foot is not a death sentence, merely a neutral exchange between yourself and another consciousness. Change creates resistance. Resistance creates change.

As you learn and grow, feel the subtle shift occurring between beginning and end. Allow yourself to pause. Allow yourself to find a sense of stillness. Not everything needs to be rushed. Not everything needs to be accomplished today.
