Society has failed to provide young men with purpose as gender roles evolve (or maybe I should say women's roles evolve). About 40% of people in college are now men, as men no longer see the point of high achievement. At the same time, in most of their relationships they find themselves put into the primary provider role, despite having been told otherwise. In this role they should not have been put into, they are told they are not actually accomplishing anything worth noting; after all, the role doesn't exist. If he doesn't provide, his wife calls him a deadbeat, but if he does he is left with an unshakeable feeling of being exploited. In addition, they're expected to make their wives happy and provide her with children, all while knowing the child is more his wife's child than his own. Courts enforce this belief by granting custody to the wife by default if there is a divorce, and unless he contests it he is once again put into the provider role that he was told he wouldn't be put in, and for which he knows he should expect no appreciation as he has accomplished nothing.
