hello to everyone, regardless of the significance of this specific day to you, i hope you are well and are able to find something to make you smile today. ❤️
I keep seeing that “first they came for the journalists” sign, and it pisses me off so much, because when they came for muslims, immigrants, and trans people, mainstream journalists normalized it and reported it as “both sides”. Somehow it didn’t count for them until it was happening to them personally, which is *exactly* what the fucking poem was warning against in the first place.
@Mark @julkinen @SinisterBulb @Basmitharts it is true that 'practical skills' are always in demand... but who earns enough money to pay for those with practical skills, equipment, certifications/licences, insurance? people who've never touched a spanner or screwdriver in their lives.
@Mark @julkinen @SinisterBulb @Basmitharts I was told many years ago about how 'practical skills are always in demand' ... 'learn a trade you'll never be out of work' ... had my own biz for over 10 yr, just gets harder and more expensive, same labour rates today as then,, as i get less employable in a normal 'wfh/office' job... should have played the game and gone corporate instead of listening to that nonsense.
@julkinen @SinisterBulb @Mark @Basmitharts yeah it's very much my reality, often 200 miles/day around the M25/south east of england. Hate job, hate driving, but 'get a different job' easier said than done with ££££ cost of living and other personal circumstances.
@EricPaulDennis layoffs mean their work is done, right????
@ekozie even if/when he does step down, he's not going to be able to help himself from meddling, he's not going to stop posting and getting mad.
@Mark @Thecarhoarder chicken and egg with engagement, just got to post through it and things should work out. since my posting is mostly having a moan, suspect i'm not the biggest draw though.
@Thecarhoarder can't see things continuing much longer at this rate enough people are elsewhere, mastodon does seem like it will work, even if it's a bit different.
@ekozie 'it's an advertising based business, if people want to promote stuff they should be buying ad space if they want to use it for marketing purposes'
