This is a shocking story.
Krafton CEO Changhan Kim reportedly used ChatGPT while planning the removal of the Subnautica founders in order to avoid paying a $250 million bonus tied to the release of Subnautica 2.
According to the court’s findings, Krafton then attempted to delay the game’s release in order to evade that payout.
The judge ruled that this conduct was intentional.
As a result, the court ordered Ted Gill to be immediately reinstated as CEO with full authority over the project. In corporate disputes, executives who are fired typically seek financial damages. Courts almost never order reinstatement through “specific performance.”
The ruling also equitably extended the bonus deadline. Krafton’s attempt to avoid the $250 million payment by delaying the game therefore backfired. The creators now have additional time to qualify for the full amount.
