Yesterday's Mastodon blow-up is giving me serious pause about my presence in the Fediverse. I've had reactions ranging from "maybe you should maintain a small instance just for yourself and close friends" to "this whole network is too flammable for you to participate in it."
I'm already seeing people on Reddit call for the defederation of tech.lgbt for... antisemitism?
What's the use of a social network where everyone constantly feels threatened and aggreived? Isn't that Twitter?

Consider that the purpose of #Mastodon may not be housing #Twitter refugees, but rather setting an alternative example for how social media communities should be engineered.
There are a number of public figures on Twitter that I would hate to see here, mostly because they're all about "brands," "identities," "marketing," and "grievance." None of that makes for a healthy and happy environment.
