Small but useful thing that for some reason is not mentioned too often in docs: use tilde when referencing tables and figures (https://www.overleaf.com/learn/latex/Referencing_Figures). For example, instead of "Fig. \ref{fig:foo}" use "Fig.~\ref{fig:foo}". The tilde tells latex not to break the line before the figure number.

1. I recommend using Overleaf, if you're not using it already. It's been ages since I used a local latex setup, but I still remember it used to be a pain.
2. Use the submission venue's latex template from the very start (if you're not using it already). If you're using Overleaf you may find the template is already available there.
3. My tendency was typically to skip the instructions/recommendations supplied in the template readme/guide because "I already know latex", but over time I found it's worth taking the time to check them out when they're available. They often have good latex tips. In addition, there's more than one way to obtain certain formatting in latex, but some will play along better with a particular template, so such guides can save you some effort.

When I asked about use vs. program I wasn't referring to the VBA part (which is clearly code), but about the formulas. This was before my time, but I suspect that the spreadsheet paradigm (introduced by VisiCalc) pushed what used to previously require programming into the "use" domain. I'm actually not sure if this paradigm would fall on the "no code" or on the "scripting interface" side...

Would you consider Excel a "use computer" or a "program computer"?

Very quick TIL: I figured out how to use VALUES syntax in a CTE in SQLite:

with x(c1, c2, c3) as (
values
('a', 'b', 3),
('b', 'c', 4)
)
select * from x

Handy for if you need to join against some temporary data that you can include in the query itself - or just for writing demonstration queries.

Combining CTEs and VALUES in SQLite

Here's how to use SQLite's `VALUES` syntax with a CTE to create a temporary table that you can then perform joins against in a query: ```sql with x(c1, c2, c3) as ( values ('a', 'b', 3), ('

This is a metaphor for cybersecurty. I'll let you connect the dots -- there are many.

Although it is also a great representation of Emacs.

I may need to take this quote to heart.

"Think not of the books you've bought as a 'to be read' pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood." - Luc van Donkersgoed, as quoted at https://www.instagram.com/p/CnBV6PqPxZm/

The TBR pile is dead! Long live the #BookCellar!
