Today we went to the Antiquarian Book Show in Boston. I am not a collector but this is a chance to see old and collectible books from the 1500s to modern day. Topics included history, science, medicine, fiction and more. This was a completely unique unexpected find - a book making the case that gender is a social construct and that trans people have always been part of society…published in 1621!
Occasionally, I take 5 min to sit on the patio with a coffee and watch the people go by. It’s kind of my version of meditation.
I decided to bike to Arlington Heights for errands this afternoon. I’m happy that I did - the Minuteman Trail was glorious.
Litowski: Tomorrow is daylight savings change so we’ll only be 1 hour apart
A Thai curry butternut squash soup, with coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass, fried shallots, lime and cilantro. I’m really pleased with how it turned out.
Visited the introductory exhibit of the Lowell, MA Historical Park today. It’s a really cool interesting overview of the history of the fabric mills and the city. We’ll be back to see the larger buildings soon.
I tried a new recipe this evening - a Greek apple honey cake. It doesn’t look fancy, but is moist, apple spicy. Very delicious. Trying hard not to eat a second piece tonight. I will probably share with the family downstairs, now that Mr. Are You Going To Eat That? has moved to college.
Last week’s box of peaches is this week’s pie 😁
The angst and outrage directed at women and their new found freedom on bikes was wild. This newspaper article from 1897 is part of an exhibit on sea monsters at the Harvard Natural History Museum. It was posted for the story about a giant fish but it’s the upper story that caught my eye. “A minister writes of bicycle skirts, tells what is proper and improper”. Um, thanks for your opinion, I guess? All without the benefit of having actually worn a skirt, of course.
I don’t know who put these chairs at this bus stop in Arlington, MA, but I love it. It’s a busy stop that ought to have a bench and shelter. But sidewalk space is tight because too much was allocated to vehicle traffic.
