If someone says that "Maybe things will get so bad that people will rise up", remind that this means people will get hurt - physically, economically, and more. That is never something to wish for.
Today we went to the Antiquarian Book Show in Boston. I am not a collector but this is a chance to see old and collectible books from the 1500s to modern day. Topics included history, science, medicine, fiction and more. This was a completely unique unexpected find - a book making the case that gender is a social construct and that trans people have always been part of society…published in 1621!

Occasionally, I take 5 min to sit on the patio with a coffee and watch the people go by. It’s kind of my version of meditation.
I decided to bike to Arlington Heights for errands this afternoon. I’m happy that I did - the Minuteman Trail was glorious.

I’ve been volunteering with the local Democratic Party, making phone calls to voters, for the last couple of months. This weekend is the big Get Out the Vote (GOTV) effort, so I did an extra shift today. There were many hang ups, but I did speak with a 90 year old woman who said “Tell Kamala to kick their asses!” Made my day. And yes, she’s planning to vote on Tuesday and has a ride to the polls.

Do any of you remember saying “Halloween apples” when trick or treating?

It was part of a chant:
Halloween apples, trick or treat!
Give me something good to eat!

Apparently it’s a western Canadian thing but I wonder if it’s generational too.

Earlier in the day, I chatted with the lab safety rep. We decided that nothing in the lab safety rules prohibits wearing a onesie, as long as you have proper footwear. Sadly, no one took advantage of this opportunity.
I called into a meeting today that was run by a guy wearing a SuperMario costume. Everyone else has their cameras off. Towards the end, he called out a couple of people who were also wearing Nintendo costumes. I did not wear a costume to work but if I did, I sure wouldn’t waste it by having my camera off.
