@kottke The "counting" is never a problem. The unread counts serve as a visual indicator that never holds anyone hostage. No one is obligated to read everything, anyone using any RSS reader has a choice to ignore anything.

Using personal misguided feelings, and trying to monetize them by making others pay for an application that innovates or improves on nothing other than visual aesthetics is nothing more than gimmick. Save your money people, for things we underappreciate.

@marioguzman They are in the business of making money. All of them are. Why would they care about their customers when they want to monetize on them first?

Simply put, they don't care. No matter how many times people point it out. They'll only care when their revenue sources are severely affected.
