Algorithms, AI, and the Future of Theater

This seems to be a rebrand of the NYPD's invasive and ineffective Shotspotter program, from 'crime detection' to 'quality of life' -- the privacy implications of this surveillance tech are severe. No one should want the city eavesdropping on their neighborhoods. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/05/nyregion/nyc-noise-cameras.html
Quiet, Please: New York’s ‘Noise Cameras’ Are Listening

New York City, not exactly known for its peace and quiet, is expanding its use of technology to ticket the drivers of loud cars and motorcycles.

The Dangers of AI Intoxication

Can theatre artists use the tools of Big Tech to dismantle its influence?

Did you play in a band in high-school? (Not marching band!)

Were your parents in a band in highschool or college? Did they know people in bands?

I wanna hear the cassettes those bands recorded in their basement, or the see the VHS tapes they have of the time they played a show in the highschool gym or whatever.

I'm working on a documentary about the history of independent music and local music, and I need examples and interview subjects from the last 75 years.

If the people signing this document https://www.safe.ai/statement-on-ai-risk about "AI risk" were serious, they wouldn't keep building these systems and selling them (actually renting them out) on the open market.
The list is advertising and useful idiots.
Statement on AI Risk | CAIS

A statement jointly signed by a historic coalition of experts: “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.”

My very quick take on Warhol v. Goldsmith is that the focus on whether the defendant’s work competes commercially with the plaintiff’s is the fourth factor invading the first, and that this will be bad news for generative AI once the dust settles.
AI Is Tearing Wikipedia Apart

Volunteers who maintain the digital encyclopedia are divided on how to deal with the rise of AI-generated content and misinformation.

“People who criticize new technologies are sometimes called Luddites, but it’s helpful to clarify what the Luddites actually wanted. The main thing they were protesting was the fact that their wages were falling at the same time that factory owners’ profits were increasing, along with food prices. They were also protesting unsafe working conditions, the use of child labor, and the sale of shoddy goods that discredited the entire textile industry. The Luddites did not indiscriminately destroy machines; if a machine’s owner paid his workers well, they left it alone. The Luddites were not anti-technology; what they wanted was economic justice. They destroyed machinery as a way to get factory owners’ attention. The fact that the word #Luddite is now used as an insult, a way of calling someone irrational and ignorant, is a result of a smear campaign by the forces of capital.”
