Happy to announce my 2nd paper from my dissertation was published in jgrplanets: "Bedding scale correlation on Mars in western Arabia Terra". I used HiRISE DEMs and GemPy3D to correlate strata in adjacent basins on #mars https://doi.org/10.1029/2023JE007776
@mapperwocky yeah let’s find a time to chat, I think you know how to reach me ;)

No Haiku's but two #LPSC abstracts submitted!

#1651 is on some work I'm doing to understand features in the volcanic floor units in Jezero.

#1668 is on some exciting open GIS standards that will help with cloud-computing-native PSDI!

#lpsc2023

@ThomasAlbin @talkpython @mkennedy no worries! Yeah for sure will see you there, keep up the great work you’re doing!
@talkpython @ThomasAlbin @mkennedy great episode, thanks for the shoutout for #SpiceyPy! Small comment: I’m no longer a PhD student, defended in January!
Space Science with Python

Space science is one of the few sciences that can spark wonder and imagining in almost anyone. It also happens to be the domain of Python with many missions, telescopes, and analysis happening with Python playing a major role.

@mapperwocky I’m starting to dig it also, just need to curate my hashtags and follow more people. It has (and hear me out) a very early Web 1.0 feel with the different servers out there with their own rules and vibes. Instances behave much more like the web forums of old if you keep to the instance. ActivityPub is liberating content from the walled gardens of Web 2.0. However I will be paying attention to how scammers/malicious actors attempt to abuse the system, there may be some downsides…
@mapperwocky I’ll take it for now, but maybe someday I can get the other one ;)
This article on wine-tasting summarizes why I am always skeptical about trusting human made labels as "ground-turth", never assume your expert human is perfect! Lesson is applicable to supervised ML problems also... https://asteriskmag.com/issues/1/is-wine-fake
Is Wine Fake?—Asterisk

Wine commands wealth, prestige, and attention from aficionados. How much of what they admire is in their heads?

@mapperwocky are these available on the jpl store?
