What I love about sewing is that you can bring an object to life from flat textiles.
This is a cushion cover, made with two separate pieces of second-hand fabric found at #reusefabrik (Brussels). I am intrigued by the thought that each had an owner, a history, a demise before I found them in a box full of other fabric, and now they will have a second life on my sofa.
Yes, it is kitsch, and that makes me smile.
Welcome to Prime Day, when thousands of product thumbnails blur together to form a giant pile of garbage

I love a sale – but scrolling the list of Amazon’s deals is overwhelming to the point of delirium

I was looking for a relaxing project and I was intrigued by the pattern. I bought the yarn without thinking too much...and then I discovered I would need to crochet 70 of those. Not sure I will have the patience. What is your tip to keep going?

What #trump's irrational actions [ #tariffs ...] does is to heighten the long-term decline of the United States and the relative rise of China.

Trump’s Tariffs: Is This the End of Globalisation and Global Value Chains? - Global Development Institute Blog

Khalid Nadvi, Professor of International Development, Global Development Institute, University of Manchester 5 April 2025   As financial markets across the world continue to reel from the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on April 2nd – so-called ‘Liberation Day’ – questions arise if this is the end of the era of globalisation and of […]

Finding happiness in the process.
I was never particularly fond of crocheting granny squares but I learned to like it while working on this cardigan, in spite of the frequent color changes.
The yarn is extremely soft and, while I had to make some adjustments to the pattern to make it fit my size, it was an easy one. I loved picking up the hook and focusing on just this work, mind emptied of anything else.

This administration has killed global governance and in so doing has made the case of why global governance, including things like the Paris agreement, are precious and should be defended.

It does not matter if you approve of Khalil’s views. It does not matter if you support the Israelis or the Palestinians. It does not matter if you are a liberal or a conservative [...] If the state can deprive an individual of his freedom just because of his politics, [...], then no one is safe. You may believe that Khalil does not deserve free speech or due process. But if he does not have them, then neither do you. Neither do I.

Due process is a cornerstone of democracy and the rule of law. Without it, anyone can be arbitrarily deprived of life or liberty. Leaders who aspire to absolute power always begin by demonizing groups that lack the political power to resist, and that might be awkward for the political opposition to defend. They say someone is a criminal, and they dare you to defend the rights of criminals. They say someone is a deviant, and they dare you to defend the rights of deviants.
