Every now and then I read something casually and it takes a few minutes for my brain to acknowledge the gravity of its meaning.

Like this sentence: "According to UN-endorsed projections, global demand for fresh water will exceed supply by 40% in 2030."

Global demand for fresh water will exceed supply by 40% in 2030! How is that not headline news driving a massive global effort to prevent the ensuing tragedy!?

Insisting on being stupid
It amazes me that the “news” tab on the @Mastodon app just takes me to the article instead of all the posts that discuss the article.
@detachedspork Basically like Elon Musk.
What bothers me more is how much of nerd culture is not self-aware about how much their ethos is about policing. Keeping people out or forcing them to conform. Many of these folks fancy themselves as anti-establishment. But the energy is constantly doing cop shit. They just wanna *be* the establishment.
Here’s the deal: We stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential.

People don't understand what money is. Some people gain advantage by tricking those people into thinking governments "borrow."

Government debt is simply a measure of how much money is circulating. Govts spend money into the economy, taxes take it out.

Taxes do not "fund" spending. Taxes are not "revenue." Taxes remove currency from circulation.

In the USA "paying off the national debt" would mean taxing $30 trillion out of the economy. How do you think that would work out?

Truly horrifying ruling out of Alabama
“AL Supreme Court rules IVF embryos are protected under Wrongful Death of a Minor Act”

This absurd ruling is medical malpractice & will end IVF in AL. People suffering from infertility now have no access.

Alabama ranks #3 nationally in highest rate of infant mortality.😳MAGAs were never “pro-life.” They were always pro control of women.😐
