Transferring my IG post from 12 November 2020 Finished 3 more pairs of trousers for Mr Midi
πŸ‘–
Tried a new to me pattern, I was drawn to it for the original design and asymmetric fly (without zip!). It might take a little getting used to, but I think it looks very cool 😎
πŸ‘–
Mr Midi's very delighted with his new trousers and chose the red ones to wear first, totally drawn in by the shiny gold snaps 🌟

No special care for our me made garments here, I believe my care for garments isn't really lacking as I'm still able to wear garments I bought 10-20 years ago πŸ˜‡
Although it might turn out to not be the most sustainable... 🧐
🧺
I wash me made garments together with RTW garments:
🌸 after 3-4 wears or when dirty
🌸 on low temperature
🌸 using ecological washing liquids from @ecover_be ➑️ Update 2025: I discovered washing strips from @brauzz_ and have been incorporating these into the laundry routine since last year, I don't use liquids anymore
🌸 using ecological stain removers like Savon de Marseille - thanks to @sakijane for introducing this method
🌸 with fabric softener as I don't like the smell but mostly feel of vinegar (still a bit too itchy for my skin), but it's also Ecover, so I hope that compensates a bit? ➑️ Update 2025: I don't use fabric softener anymore since the discovery of @brauzz_ products, with the exception of towels as they tend to feel like sandpaper without
🌸 air drying, much to Hubby's dislike I refuse to buy a dryer.
🧺
If there's anything else I could change for the sake of sustainability, I'd like to know 😊

No picture today as I'm not really sustainable in this department I'm afraid...
😢
I do keep fabric scraps for future use as pockets or bias or undies or even facemasks nowadays. But the ones too small to do anything useful with are just thrown into the bin. No room for long-term storage here...
😢
I currently am saving up some jersey scraps as I intend to try and make a bra someday...

OK, this happened: I caved into buying a manual sewing machine for the kids about 2 months ago. I guess you could say I'm an egoistic mum, not willing to share my sewing machine anymore 😏
βœ‚οΈ
The kids were over the moon and after the first tryout stated it was actually better than mine 😳
I do admit it sews quite smoothly and seems to be quiet too, even more quiet than my own 🀫
βœ‚οΈ
And so Little Sewing School Lesson 4 was integrally sewn on the new machine, on 3 separate days for Miss Midi. Since Mr Midi hasn't finished this project yet, I won't be sharing his pics in this post.
βœ‚οΈ
Miss and Mr Midi made a bunting using 3 different colour variations of the same fabric, remnants from an earlier make. She used gold bias tape to bind them together.

Another FibreMood Social Sew Along ended with a new wardrobe addition. Thank you again, CΓ©line @stikcel and Kate @timetosew for all the helpful tips and tricks (I didn't get to put all of them in practice, but one day I will πŸ˜‰)! 😘
🧡
This Norma blouse totally fits my style, so I couldn't let this one pass 😍
🧡
I recently acquired a bag with fabrics from my in-laws, result of cleaning up their attic. I found this beautiful polka dot fabric inside and thought this would make a very nice Norma blouse. I'm guessing it's rayon, it has this sheen but feels a bit stiffer than expected on first sight. It has obviously been another garment before as the unpicked seams were still visible.
But boy, did I absolutely not like the way it behaved under the iron, while cutting and yes, also when sewing together 🀬
I was so bummed I didn't expect anything except a toile that may or may not even be wearable, convinced it certainly wouldn't meet my finishing standards 😬
I reluctantly pushed myself on to finish it...
🧡
I can now say it exceeded those expectations. Okay, it's still a bit wonky in certain places. The facings didn't match up with the neckline and I had to shorten the sleeves due to fabric limits.
But the feeling this blouse gives me... πŸ₯°
Putting it on made me wanna dress up, so I put on lipstick to match the red buttons (no button stash here yet) and let my hair down for the photo shoot πŸ˜‡
And oh yes, size 36 fits me again πŸŽ‰

A simple gathered skirt on an elastic waistband can turn out to be a real eye catcher, don't you think?
🧡
The fabric is a remnant of a dress I made for a friend. She told me I could use it to make sth for Miss Midi. So I finally did πŸ˜‡
🧡
As it turned out, the length of this fabric remnant was spot on and I had twice her waist in total width. Perfect piece for a gathered skirt, right?
🧡

Miss Midi asked and Miss Midi got... a new dress 😊
βœ‚οΈ
2 summers ago I made my first Issie top pattern, trying to hack it into a dress on Miss Midi's request. It didn't turn out quite as beautiful, it looked more like a nightgown instead of a real dress 🀨
So I wanted to give this another try ever since and I must say: mission accomplished 🀩
βœ‚οΈ
I used the Issie top pattern as a base, cut size 8 years with the Rose collar and added a gathered skirt.
πŸ“Note to self: a LOT of fabric makes for beautiful gathered skirts πŸ€“
To add a little more excitement I decided to cut the hem into a high-low one.
To conclude: I'm quite proud of this dress and I'm hoping she might wear it longer than 1 year πŸ˜‡

Fabric: Mies & Moos Ballerina blue glitter jersey @stoffenfeest ; red velvet from my stash for the collar

I finally found the courage to sew up this Orono top for myself 😍 (bought it sometime last year). It has pockets too!
🧡
I made a straight size 8 without the collar as I wanted to draft a wide turtleneck collar (waterfall like) in the neckline workshop with @isabelledelaere.
As you can see it turned out very differently. I cut the wrong collar and didn't have enough fabric left for my idea, so I made a straight turtleneck instead. Which is also soft and comfy πŸ€—
🧡
Besides these, I played around and used one of the many decorative stitches of my machine to hem. Somewhere during the making of the kids tees my twin needle broke and I had to be creative as I didn't have a spare one...
🧡
Oh and yes, I'm also wearing my face mask. Had to try it on and it's quite soft to the skin. I very much like this design πŸ‘

I made a bag!

The Yin Yang bag, in a workshop @destoffenkamer hosted by @jacedidit and the more I look at it, the more I like it πŸ˜‡
πŸ”¨
We did quite a lot of hammering for the rivets and eyelets. I especially like the nametag, it has been smartly placed to mask a beauty bug in my topstitching 😁
πŸ”¨
Pattern: Yin Yang
Fabric: cork leather @destoffenkamer, cotton lining from my stash
Haberdashery: eyelets, rivets and leather strap provided by @jacedidit, zipper @veritaseu
