@hbons ugh. Sorry to hear. Hoping for good results for Timmermans coalition!
@hbons Pretty sure number 3, or something very close to it, is an actual US army project.
@matt and principles is great and all but only takes you so far. I really wish more software developers would get up from their desks and go out in the world to understand what problems their users are having and how software is being used to solve those problems. If that is best answered by a traditional menubar or a hamburger menu? I don’t know! We should go and find out! Chances are we might find out that this isn’t even the biggest problem with the software in the first place.
@matt One thing the article doesn’t touch on or has any curiosity about is the contexts that these UIs were/are being used in and how that drives how they behave. “Classic” UIs operated in very specific contexts and on hardware with certain limitations. Modern UIs tries to solve the problems that arise from the devices and wider world they operate in.
@garrett @andreasn @jimmac Wow! It works so much better with the backgrounds!
@jimmac It’s the true way! At least once a week, I think about that cursed meme with the image from Zelda 2 about how video games actually looked like in the 80ies.

My hat goes off to those Swedish dockworkers refusing to unload Teslas until they negotiate with their local employees.

Incredible solidarity.

(For some reason it’s always my untagged posts that go wide lmao, so here a link: https://www.wired.com/story/tesla-sweden-strike/ )

Swedish Ports Threaten to Block Teslas From Entering the Country

Tesla is failing to play by Swedish labor rules, unions claim. Now a strike that started with mechanics is beginning to spread.
