"Tolerance" is really a bullshit word. Ignoring definition 4 (specific to toxicology), all the definitions boil down to "it's bad, but I'll allow it".
And that's what tolerance is. A "tolerant" society says "fine, be gay, but only if I don't have to see it".
"Acceptance" should be the goal. Tolerance is a begrudging "you're wrong, sinner, but I'll ignore that".
Acceptance is "you're great the way you are".
"Tolerance" got us into the mess we're currently in.
