Crossing the Mediterranean sea is a dangerous path to Europe!!
African youths are still dying in the Mediterranean sea to reach #Europe. Yet, no substantive action from the #AfricanUnion to dissuade or Clamp down On people and smugglers facilitating this dangerous expedition.
The #MediterraneanSea is the new cemetery for African youth in their quest for a better life abroad—a life that is not guaranteed.
The average traveller making this perilous trip spends not less than $2000 throughout the journey, meaning they are not in unrecoverable despair; they have simply lost faith in the continent of Africa and are harbouring the belief that life is not possible at home in Africa—a notion that has been sustained by the continued disruption to developmental programs, bad governance and uncouth human rights violations that have been committed by African governments, coupled with hyperinflation and unemployment.
This distrust between citizens and the continent is a troubling sign of a failing generation in the African governance structure.
Government officials in Africa and regional bodies should do more in outreach and public engagement with youths in bringing out the dangers of making such a hazardous trip across the new “African-Youth-cemetery” Mediterranean Sea!
