the Riemann sphere is a nice idea and all, but it doesn't take the realities of floating-point computation into account. that's why i'm introducing the Kahan Torus

While Mastodon has been moving slowly in this direction over the last year or so, nothing (here or elsewhere) has managed to replace before-time Twitter for breaking news, local emergency alerts, or a getting a quick general sense of what's going on in the world.

Yes, I know there are some people who don't want real-world information here, but I think this is a real, significant loss.

I sort of like it when things I do get described as "magic", because I kind of agree, just not in the sense that it's usually meant.

Because usually it's things where they get to see the grand finish and are all "teach me your secrets". Then you try to do that and they somehow instantaneously lose interest once they learn that every single performance involves half an hour of tedious prep, two stage hands, and hundreds of hours of practice and rehearsal to be able to nail it in the first place.

It had to be done...

We're not going to give Google veto power over what we're allowed to do in GrapheneOS. We comply with CTS and CDD except when it limits our ability to provide our users with privacy and security. Google wants to be in charge of which privacy/security features can be added. Nope.
Google should also be forbidden from participating in blocking using alternate hardware/firmware/software. They've abused their market position to reinforce their monopolies. They've used security as an excuse despite what they're doing having no relevance to it and REDUCING it.
Google's behavior in the mobile space is highly anti-competitive. Google should be forbidden from including Google Mobile Services with privileged access unavailable to regular apps and services. GrapheneOS sandboxed Google Play proves that hardly anything even needs to change.
“TODO” in code doesn’t mean you’re actually going to do it, it means you don’t want questions about why you didn’t do it.
