🔥 #ArtificialIntelligence large language models have no business pretending they can write if they haven't even figured out how to complete incomplete citations and format them properly according to a specified style guide. That would be a real service—so, yeah, get on that!

When talking theology with everyday folks, expect the unexpected. . . .*

*From a recent conversation over 10 a.m. Kalimotxos.

"While living persons are not responsible for what their ancestors did, they are responsible for the society they live in, which is a product of that past."

"The collusion of business and government in the theft and exploitation of #Indigenous lands and resources is the core element of colonization and forms the basis of US wealth and power."

As I see it, the early, faithful model that the church should return to can be seen in Matt 15:21–28—where Jesus allows his vision of God's plan to be expanded and his former prejudices challenged and judged by the Canaanite woman's faith. We should be like Jesus.
I worry for individual young people who opt for a #humanities education because I know how little economic value our society places on the humanities. I worry for our society because I know how few young people are being educated in the humanities.

I try to embrace the fact that life and history are in constant evolution. But massive declines in #humanities education (not exactly breaking news) and, now, AI that can write original research papers that may be as good or better than human papers scares me.

To have any hope of avoiding idolatry, one must be a radical falliblist.

Someone at my office tried to turn an empty cubicle into a giant snow globe using plastic sheeting, tiny bits of styrofoam, and an electric leaf blower.

It didn't quite work as planned (styrofoam everywhere!), but I will respect this ambition to the end of my days. 🎄

For anyone new to the Christian faith, I would riff on Buechner:

Here is #Christianity. Beautiful and terrible things abound. Don't be afraid—but proceed patiently and cautiously, and when in doubt, choose Love.
