An AP investigation has found that authorities used technologies mobilized for COVID-19 for purposes entirely unrelated to the pandemic — halting travel for activists and ordinary people, harassing marginalized communities and linking people’s health information to other surveillance and law enforcement tools.  In some cases, data was shared with spy agencies #surveillance #pandemic https://apnews.com/article/technology-police-government-surveillance-covid-19-3f3f348d176bc7152a8cb2dbab2e4cc4

Work from home has been a huge boon to employment access for disabled people.

“The jobless rate for disabled workers — typically in double digits and 12.3% two years ago — dropped to 5.8% in November … the lowest rate for people with disabilities since record-keeping began in 2008.”

Yes, I have been using the Toot app as well. Seems to work well for now. I am still learning the ropes here. Got on the waitlist for Post too.
your semi-regular reminder that women weren't allowed to perform on stage until the 1660s and that from the 5th century BC until 360 years ago, every show was a drag show

I have been told all my life that antisemitism is over. That what my grandparents’ generation went through was history. That I was oversensitive and attention-seeking when I pointed out anti-Jewish bigotry.

And now, as the right wing bigots swarm Twitter and Ye goes on Alex Jones’ show to say “I love nazis,” I don’t feel vindicated. I don’t feel right or righteous.

I just feel numb.

I am blown away by the kind responses here to my post about being sick. Yesterday I spent a little time on the bird site and paid close attention to my body signals as I read those posts clamoring for escalation. I felt the tightening in my body, but worse, the darkening of my take on humanity again.
The total opposite of checking in here today and catching up with so much kindness. In fact, it feels like it’s making my flu symptoms less too and feeling better about humanity too.

Can anyone help me in finding a way to get Paxlovid in Toronto, Ontario? My father, who is 67, had his first positive test today. He is slightly symptomatic with runny/congested sinuses. My mother and my family have high risk conditions of varying degrees. I can't talk to a family doctor until Monday and I don't even know if they will take us because they are so busy.

We need help. Please.

I am about a week into what must be the flu or RSV, since the almost daily Covid tests I take keep coming up negative. It's not a fun ride, for sure, and unlike in times before, when at the 1-week mark I could see the end of the road, this bug is trying to negotiate a long-term lease on my sinuses and bronchi. Any of you reading this, my advice to you is to do everything to avoid getting any bugs this season.
Oh boy, I just spent some time on the bird site and I feel like I need a shower. Everyone seems to be slinging dirt, left, right and center there.
