All in-town errands this month are by bike-only on my new Specialized Globe Haul ST.
We dressed Franklin up tonight for Halloween as his ultimate nemesis.
Spent last week in Tokyo and was able to get out for a ride. The streets are narrow and filled with cars, and the bike “lanes” are less than a meter wide. But the pavement everywhere is PERFECT and cars are so respectful they literally apologize when they pass.
Had to stop for a rattlesnake crossing on my bike commute home from work today.
This is Franklin. Dog DNA test said 45% border collie, 30% chihuahua, 20% pit bull and 5% “super mutt.” I thought he was just an overgrown Jack Russell on steroids when I adopted him, but I’ll believe the results because I spent $50 on them. The shot in the car is after an hour of chasing balls, and when Franklin pants like this, I can use my phone light to literally see straight into his lungs. #dogsofmastodon
While six-lane, 55-mph city streets are the connective tissue of Orange County, California, we still do have a little bicycle infrastructure. Irvine has most of it. #bicycleinfrastructure #bicyclecommuting
Blatant #DogsOfMastadon pic of my dog Franklin. From last night during a break from chasing balls. Needed this tonight after a tough day.
Just a regular reminder of the price collusion of the insulin manufacturers in the U.S. market. The good news? Since we have exposed their behavior with activism, prices have taken a pause on their annual increases that have resulted in a 600% rise in the last 20 years—at least for now. Don’t trust them. #insulin4all #insulin
Posted this on Insta on that it was fitting on #worlddiabetesday I had to change a sensor and infusion set. I feel bad I trivialized this. This is $100 of supplies and insulin that I have to change multiple times per week. I pay a massive monthly insurance payment for the privilege to have this access. In every other civilized nation, this same set/sensor change costs just a few bucks. Hundreds of thousands of Type 1s can’t afford this care and the ultimate result is death. This needs to change.
