A
#newsletter question, if anyone is able to offer advice. Are there any newsletter email service providers that include collaborative features while creating emails? ie. ability to leave comments etc for other team members on draft newsletters etc? I would love something like that but haven't seen anything like it.
Exciting times in the tech/journalism/dataviz space at the moment. Loving working with SvelteKit, and getting into PlanetScale for SQL. Already starting to use DALL-E and OpenAI for images/story summaries etc. 2023 is going to be wild/exciting/scary
Vercel's new commenting feature for preview deployments is awesome. I've been looking for a way to collect feedback on projects from our distributed teams and this could well be exactly what we need.
“Despite huge changes in the technology of news, the structure of a story today doesn’t look hugely different from one in, say, 1932.” Lots of interesting things going on in the world of media formats.

Nieman LabTaking some time to learn SvelteKit, not just because v1.0 is out but because I have a few days free. And loving it so far.

Intro: I'm a journalist, developer, and designer from South Africa. Co-founder of Media Hack Collective, a data journalism startup, and editor of The Outlier, an Africa-focused data publication. Also most-time editor for a growing collection of niche-newsletters: newsletters.mediahack.co.za Previous incarnations as the founder and publisher of Tectonic, an African open source software magazine/website. Refugee from mainstream media.
Put together a rough Instagram-like design as an idea for our end-of-year charts feature.
I'm not naturally patient. When I have ideas I want to do them immediately. Almost 3 years into running a startup media business I'm finally learning that things always (alwaaaays) take a lot longer than you expect.
