Oops forgot to post this one!
We had a couple of cm snowfall last night. The roof definitely wouldn’t have been able to handle that before, so all done in the nick of time? 😅
We got it done, one conservatory raised by about 40cm with a new supporting wall below!
More than a bit scary hearing the plastic all popping as it shifts… it was definitely a two person job!
Made a few more props so we can stabilise everything as we jacked it up
Some more to go (noggins, tension wire to replace the ratchets permanently), but wow that’s been one hell of a day!
#diy
Finished for the day, the constant stress of “will this fall on my head” is getting to me.
Took 3 hours to remove all the necessary insulation material. I had to cut it around the new center support (put in this morning), as there’s no chance of moving the support now!
I spent some time figuring out how to do the next part - raising the roof.
The plan is to use the car jack I have to slowly raise a second support next to the first, and shim the first upward #diy
Later than scheduled but hey that’s life!
- Cleared out the conservatory
- Shifted all my tools and timber into the room
- Created the exterior brackets to spread load from the ratchet strap hooks
- Took two attempts to put my safety hat together
- Installed the brackets and hooks
- Setup the ratchet strap
The idea is with a combo of slowly raising vertical supports, and pulling the bowing walls back together (ratchets), I can get everything square again to sit on a new supporting wall #diy
My conservatory roof started failing in the summer, and home insurance denied the claim 🙃
Finally able to get a fix in place; it’s held up currently by a sketchy wood prop! Attached photo is months old and hasn’t shifted further thankfully
Planning phase of the repair is done, today is the first day of gathering materials. Gonna be a hell of a job, effectively building a timber frame below the main beam to support it
