Hi all - new year, new costs. Currently the server is being paid out of pocket mostly, and I need renewed support to ensure it makes sense to keep the server online. There are fewer people active on the server, but if everyone who uses the server chips in $1.50/month, we'd cover costs communally.

Did anyone notice that we reduced content retention to 2 years?
We did this several weeks ago and it saved us circa 10GB of database storage. This was a trial before reducing content retention to 1 year, to see whether it could help keep costs low.
If you noticed this, it will be helpful to know – and help decide whether 1 year of content retention maintains functionality 😊
Following up on this post - we changed our content retention settings to 730 days (2 years) as an initial trial.
As a result, we do not need to upgrade at this time. This keeps the #AkademieNL server healthy 😊
Just three months since our last upgrade, we have to upgrade our server database **again**. However, we have the option to try and reduce the need for it by removing old posts from other servers. How do the people on #AkademieNL feel about this? What would be an okay timeframe to do so (365 days too fast or not)?

Does the #AkademieNL folk have thoughts on defederating/blocking the Bluesky bridge?
