A food can factory is opening in Chatham, Ontario. It'll use Canadian steel, avoid tariffs, and make Ontario more food self-sufficient.

I fully intended being a snowbird, but I did not book ahead for my regular Jan 2025 rental because I was afraid that either Trump would get elected in Nov 2024, or if he didn’t, things would get crazy anyway. Turned out to be a good decision.

Now, I have no intention of going back for the foreseeable future. Anecdotally, I know people who have already sold up in Florida.

And yes, I’m also boycotting American goods.

Before COVID, when I was still working, about once a month.

I think you need to also consider not just frequency but duration of stay. I retired early just before COVID kicked off (I spent all of Jan/Feb 2020 in S. Carolina, and got home just before things shut down). I went back for 3 months each winter, ending in Mar 2024.

It may be painful in the short/medium term, but Canada needs to stand firm on the Digital Services tax. Any step back will be seen as weakness by Trump and his band of rapacious shit stains that define the US in 2025; if we give in now they will keep coming back for more.

By fighting back, other countries will see us as a country worth respecting and partnering with.

Found this on Insta. Map of Alberta showing land that belongs to Alberta if it separates. Spoiler. None of it will leave Canada. Just saying

This is the way. I just love the “fuck you, Danielle!” energy.

Voted today. Man behind me in line was anxiously asking one of the volunteers for reassurance that he would be able to vote, said he was new to Canada, first federal election. Volunteer was great, told him how to check at the desk, reassuring him that as long as he could confirm his ID and address there would be no issue.

After reading so much about voter suppression in US, this made me happy despite 1 hr in line (only 1 booth on a holiday).
