@creepy_owlet there was a good talk yesterday at #fossback about the legal problems with LLM-generated code under European law, delivered by two lawyers .... tldr; if the LLM reproduces copyrighted code but not the copyright itself (or changes it!) this is almost certainly a major liability!
@mainec @FOSSBackstage oh, phew! That’s good to hear! 🥹 hopefully the recording also has the raw vid and readable slides 😅

This was day one of #FOSSBack 2026! Thanks to everyone for attending, speaking, volunteering, and helping shape the future of Free and Open Source Software with us.

Time for a little recap: https://26.foss-backstage.de/this-was-day-one/

See you tomorrow ✨

@FOSSBackstage nooo! my slides are too hard to read! 🤦‍♀️😭

Heading to Berlin for #FOSSBack to tell a story about information propagation asymmetry, about finding resilience in times of turbulence, and about stewardship of the digital commons.

F/OSS has been the thread woven through my life since college.

F/OSS has changed the world.

My #FOSDEM2026 talk recordings are up!

I've been working for the past few months on developing a "theory of voluntary security attestations" -- building on the outlines drawn by #CyberResilienceAct's Article 25, I think there is an opportunity for many #OpenSource projects/communities to become sustainably funded as a result of this new EU cybersecurity regulation.

Talk #1: 20-minute explainer

Talk #2: 40-minute panel with the public sector
https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/U9JFC8-sustaining-foss-a-panel-with/

But there are still a lot of unknowns for me, for all of us ...

So! If you want to get involved, help figure this out, join the Matrix channel -- #oss-attestations:fosdem.org

FOSDEM 2026 - Could Compliance Costs Sustain FOSS? A Theory of Voluntary Attestations

What happens when humans use agentic interfaces to write the control code of autonomous agents without understanding how the actual code works?

What happens when the last humans who actually know how to read code are no longer around?

... I think I need to rewatch Westworld ...

The FOSDEM video recording from the session "The Fediverse and the EU's Digital Services Act: solving the challenges of modern social media?" is now live: https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/W8RCMT-the_fediverse_and_the_eus_digital_services_act_solving_the_challenges_of_modern_/
